Burnout Therapy
With Maria Reiter, LCSW
Are you exhausted from constantly feeling like you should be doing more?
Does life look successful on the outside, but behind the scenes, you're exhausted and wondering how you're supposed to keep going?
Have you been ambitious, responsible, or used to just pushing through whatever needs to be done?
Others come to me when they've spent years being the person everyone can depend on. Or at the end of the day, have little energy left for relationships, hobbies, amd the things you used to enjoy.
For so many of my clients, being productive, dependable, and successful got tied to their sense of worth long before they entered the workforce.
My burnout therapy helps you understand the expectations and patterns that built your burnout, learn how to recognize your limits, and begin building a life that has room for your own needs and a balance.
I'm a therapist who's had burnout too. I used to work in hospitals — long hours with pressure to keep up. I’ve lived the cycle of getting home exhausted, spending the weekend recovering, and doing it over and over again. I also understand the therapy that breaks this cycle.
Clients Come To Me When They’re:
Physically and emotionally exhausted after work
Always thinking about work, even off the clock
Have guilt around being unproductive
Resenting their job
Disconnected from hobbies, friends, or partners
Irritability, numb, or anxious
Have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep
Know they’re doom-scrolling and can’t stop
Feeling stuck in a career or lifestyle and it’s not sustainable
When you've spent years pushing yourself to meet expectations, slowing down is unfamiliar and gets uncomfortable.
How My Burnout Therapy Works
My clients describe me as relatable, direct, and compassionate. I'm an active participant in our sessions, offering feedback, asking questions, and helping you make connections between your experiences and the patterns you're working to change. And yes, we'll make room for humor along the way.
We'll start by understanding how burnout is affecting your life and identifying the stressors, expectations, and patterns that contributed to it. Together, we'll explore your relationship with work, productivity, and achievement, along with the survival strategies you've developed to navigate stress and meet the expectations of others.
We'll also focus on helping you recognize what's happening in your mind and body. Through somatic techniques and mindfulness, we'll work on understanding your stress responses, developing regulation skills, and creating opportunities for rest and recovery.
From there, we'll explore how past experiences may have shaped the beliefs and patterns that make it difficult to slow down.
Each session is different. Some focus on managing immediate stressors and making practical changes in your everyday life. Others will focus on understanding the past - like experiences that taught you to prioritize productivity, achievement, or other people's needs over your own.
Modalities I Use
-
Helps process past experiences and beliefs that contribute to burnout, including feeling like you're never doing enough, tying your worth to your accomplishments, or believing you always have to be the responsible one.
-
Helps you recognize how chronic stress shows up in your body, identify when you're pushing past your limits, and develop strategies to regulate your nervous system after spending so much time in survival mode.
-
Helps you navigate guilt around rest, let go of unrealistic expectations, and make decisions based on your values rather than the constant pressure to be productive or achieve more.
-
Explores how early relationships shaped your tendency to overfunction, prioritize other people's needs, or feel responsible for everything, helping you develop healthier boundaries and relationships.
-
Helps you recognize the early signs of burnout, become more aware of when you're pushing past your limits, and learn how to slow down without constantly thinking about what you should be doing next.
-
Helps you understand the parts of yourself that feel responsible for doing everything, struggle to say no, or believe your worth depends on being productive. We'll explore why these patterns developed and work toward feeling more comfortable resting, setting boundaries, and prioritizing your own needs.
You Deserve to Enjoy the Life You’ve Worked To Build
With therapy, you can come home from work with enough energy to spend time with people you love, enjoy your hobbies, or simply relax without mentally running through everything you should be doing.
My burnout therapy can help you develop healthier ways of managing stress, setting boundaries, and approaching achievement so you can make more room for the parts of life that matter to you.
After Burnout Therapy, Clients Report:
They can “turn off”
A healthy relationship with work and achievement
Energy for their relationships and everyday life
Less ruminating
Can hold boundaries
Confidence prioritizing needs
They’re not exhausted anymore
Reconnecting with activities that bring you joy
Feeling more present during time away from work
You can be ambitious while also having room for the health, relationships, and life you want outside of work.
About Maria Reiter, LCSW
Therapy with me focuses on helping you heal from the survival responses the past forced you to develop, so you can have healthier patterns today, a life more aligned with who you are, and in touch with what you want.
I bring both my clinical experience and my own burnout journey into the therapy room. I understand what it's like to look like you have everything together while feeling overwhelmed behind the scenes. And I've experienced firsthand how meaningful it can be to find the right therapist and begin making changes that carry into the rest of your life.
Before opening my private practice, I worked in corporate healthcare and private practice settings, where I saw firsthand how trauma, burnout, and nervous system overload affect people’s lives.
Outside of therapy, I love trying new coffee shops, practicing yoga, playing pickleball, traveling, and spending time with my two dogs, Reggie and Zoomba. I recently traveled to London and am already looking forward to my next beach trip.
Availability: I work with individuals via telehealth in Florida and Wisconsin.
